Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, KKU hosted the 17th KVAIC
International Conference on
“Veterinary Practice towards One-Health”
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine KKU led by
Asst. Prof. Dr.
Kochakorn Direksin,
KVAIC Chairman in collaboration with Khon Kaen University,
Department of Livestock Development, Cholangiocarcinoma Screen And
Care Program (CASCAP), Technology Research Group to Prevent Disease
in Livestock and Veterinary Alumni Association Khon Kaen University,
had held the 17th Khon Kaen Veterinary Annual International
Conference (KVAIC) “Veterinary Practice towards One-Health”
during March 24th-25th , 2016 at Centara Hotel, Khon Kaen. At the
conference, the honored guest was given a welcome speech by
Dr. Ayut Harintranon,
Director General of the Department of Livestock Development. After
that, Prof.
Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul,
Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, Khon Kaen
University gave the opening speech for the conference.
The conference was aimed to provide information, knowledge and
modern academic technology and exchange opinions that are affecting
the health of people and animals. Creating a network of co-operation
between academic institutions, organizations, it was also a platform
for Veterinary KKU Alumni to present their academic works in the
field of veterinary science and health science. The idea focused on
One Health is a revolutionary concept that the faculty has proceeded
continuously. There was oral and poster presentations from VM-KKU
graduate students and alumni. More than 500 participants from both
Thailand and Overseas had joined the conference.
KKU sign MOU with the University of Georgia, USA

for MOU signing at the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia,
USA, on the 20-25th of April, 2016. University of
Georgia (UGA) is the 257th of worlds ranking
university.

4. FUTURE COOPERATION BETWEEN KKU AND UGA
·
KKU will organize a joint international symposium of 3 faculties
and professors of UGA will be the speakers.
·
UGA is willing to accept graduate students from KKU. (decision
based on the UGA standard qualification)

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, KKU will set the clinical trials
on bone and spinal cord injuries with fellows of UGA
o
Dr. Lohitash Karumbaiah –his work is using biomaterials
for spinal cord repair in dogs. Dr. Karumbaiah would be happy
to collaborate with our faculty in the future.
Exchange student from Germany
The faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
Khon Kaen University (VM-KKU), welcomed
Miss Maria Rademacher,
fourth year student from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University
of Leipzig, Germany, to attended the internship related to Clinical
Practice in Small Animal Castration at the Veterinary Teaching
Hospital, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen University
during March 23rd – April 23rd, 2016. During her internship, VM-KKU
students, staffs and lecturers of the faculty gave her a warm
welcome and also gave her opportunities in learning the professional
skills.
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine welcomed delegates from Faculty of
Veterinary Science, Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University (NVLU),
Japan.
On March 17th, 2016 at 1.30 pm, At
Pichet Luangthongkham Building, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Khon
kaen University (VM-KKU), led by
Asst. Prof. Dr. Kanit Chukamhom,
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs welcomed and also presents the
faculty souvenir of appreciation to 4 teachers and 16 students from
Faculty of Veterinary Science, Nippon Veterinary and Life Science
University, Japan (NVLU) under the 2016 study tour which is the
annual joint program between two institutions. During the visit,
faculty’s executive board accompanied NVLU group to visit VM-KKU
laboratories, Animal teaching Hospital and faculty’s Department.
On March 18th, 2016, led by
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sompoch Weerakul,
lecturer from Department of Medicine, led the NVLU delegations to
visit the King Cobra (Khok Sa-nga) Village, Nam Phong District, Khon
Kaen and also visit Khon Kaen Zoo at Kao Saun Kwang District, Khon
kaen. In the late of night, at 7.00 pm, the farewell party was held
at Khon Kaen hotel. Assoc. Prof.
Chuchat Kamollerd Dean of the
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine gave a welcome speech for a farewell
party and expressed the appreciation to the NVLU for decade kindness
collaboration. During the party, there were some of cultural
performances from both institutions.

administrators from Tottori University, Japan
In the morning session on 7th
March, 2016 at 9.00 am. Assoc. Prof.
Chuchat Kamollerd, Dean of The
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Khon Kaen Unviersity (VM-KKU) along
with Faculty’s Executive Board warmly welcomed
Prof. Dr. Hiroichi Ozaki and Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Tatsufumi Usui, administrators
from faculty of Agriculture, Tottori University, Japan. This
meeting was held at 5th Floor, Dean Office, Pichet
Luangthongkam Building, VM-KKU. This visit focused on academic
collaboration and joint research between the two institutions,
especially to facilitate research and staff exchange in the future.
This is the second time delegate visit VMKKU from Tottori’s
University first delegation visited us in August, 2015. During their
visit, the VM-KKU’s administrators accompanied the Tottori’s
delegates to visit the Faculty’s laboratories, Animal Teaching
Hospital, and class teaching observations. Furthermore, they also
got a chance to visit the Khon Kaen Insemination Center,
Northeastern Laboratory Animal Center KKU, and also visited Village
Dairy farm in Khon Kaen area.

the Faculty administrations warmly welcomed
Dr. Jiang Sha,
a lecturer of Department of Surgery, College of Animal Science and
Technology, Southwest University, China (SWU). Dr. Jiang Sha was
scheduled by VM-KKU lecturers to get practice and work in a surgery
unit and Animal Hospital Management at Department of Surgery and
Theriogenology and VM-KKU Vet Teaching Hospital. This visit was
under the staff exchange cooperation agreement (MOU) between VM-KKU
and SWU during the period from December 28th, 2015 - January 31,
2016.
After complete the welcome session,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fanan Suksawat
Assistant Dean for International Relation Affairs,
accompanied the delegation from SWU to observed at hospital central
laboratories and other part of VM-KKU Vet Teaching Hospital.
Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine joined 2015 KKU Sithan Festival
Khon Kaen Univesity (KKU) and Khon Kaen
province joined to organized the Sithan Festival during
November 23rd – 25th, 2015 at Sithan Lake,
Khon Kaen University. This year KKU arranged the festival with the
concept "Boon Somma Bucha Nam"
which mean water worship. At the event,
there were many surprisingly activities to promote Thai culture
including a photo contest, Northeastern folk cultural performances,
in addition, and free concert by Nok Air and Local folk
performances, especially Miss Noppamas contest.
Loy Krathong tradition is held to pay respects to the River Goddess
and to give thanks to the water for its usefulness and sustenance. Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine together with Veterinary Student Union joined
the parade. Moreover, Miss Pareeyaporn Pomjaksin,
2nd year student as faculty’s representative won second
runner-up, Miss Noppamas contest.
Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine welcomed Bangladesh students
On October 5th, 2015,
Assoc.Prof. Chuchart Kamollerd,
Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine warmly welcomed 2
exchange students, Mr. Pranab Paul
and Mr.
Sonnet Podder from Chittagong
Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), Bangladesh. This
is the first exchange program between faculty of Veterinary Medicine,
Khon Kaen University and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences
University, Bangladesh. The Bangladesh students are going to attend
short course training in companion and large animal clinics during
October 5th – 20th, 2015. During the
visit, they will have an opportunity to observe and practice at the
Veterinary Teaching Hospital, work on a field trip and learn Thai
culture.

Agricultural Science, Sweden
On October 5th, 2015,

Associate Dean for Research and Academic Services warmly welcomed 2
veterinary students, Mr. David
Karlsson and
Miss Matilda Halje
from Swedish University of Agricultural Science, Sweden. The purpose
of this visit was to do the research project entitled “Prevalence
of antimicrobial resistance in small and medium sized swine farms in
Thailand usingEscherichia
colias
indicator bacteria”
under academic cooperation agreement (MOU) between the Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen University and Swedish University of
Agricultural Science. This research project was under the
supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr.
Jatesada Jiwakanon, a lecturer in
Department of Veterinary Medicine, VM-KKU. The Swedish students will
take a period of 1 month and 3 weeks to complete their research (September
1st – October 21st, 2015).
A Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine received
Fullbright – Thai Scholarship
Asst. Prof. Dr. Ranee Singh,
lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen University (VM-KKU), has received
Fullbright-Thai Visiting Scholar Program (TVS) to visit the Tufts
University – Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, USA. Dr. Singh
will work on the research in the topic of “Role of somatostatin
in the regulation of insulin secretion in the hyperinsulinemic state
in humans, cats and horses”. This visit is from August 28th,
2015 – March 15th, 2016. The delegation from VM-KKU will
obtain benefits in teaching and doing research. Tufts University was
one of the best well-known University in The world.
Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine holds Wai Khru Ceremony 2015
On Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 at
Prachak Puapermpoolsiri conference room, Pichet Lhueangthonkam
Building, The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen Univesrity
held Wai Khru ceremony 2015. Wai Khru ceremony was held for the
students to express their gratitude, respect and remembrance to
their teachers. In this ceremony, all student brought bunch of
flowers to their teacher and also salute the teachers to get healthy,
and teachers return blessing the students to get successful in their
education and working life as well as good health. Besides, there
was activity that students sing the poem to praise for the teachers
“Phra Kun The Sam” song . There were also awards for the students
who had outstanding academic result for whole academic year 2014 and
who had outstanding activities result. At the end of ceremony,
Assoc. Prof. Chuchart Kamollerd,
Dean of The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine gave speech to students,
faculty lecturers and special guest who are attended the ceremony
and then they took a group photo together.
