Research interests

Research interests cover the primary fields of the anatomical sciences. These include comparative gross anatomical studies, embryology, neuroanatomy, tissue engineering animal models for human disease, reproductive biology and clinical application

Department of Physiology

Teaching Courses taught by the department include Veterinary Physiology, Clinical Veterinary Biochemistry and Animal Behavior Physiology, which are for second-year and third-year veterinary students. The Department also teaches Dog's Management, as a selected course, to undergraduate students of various faculties. Since 2003, the Department has started using Student Center Learning system (SCL) for Veterinary Physiology teaching. This teaching system is in progress and will be evaluated by the end of summer semester 2004. Community Services

Providing education on Dog's Care and training for the public.

Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is a smallest department in the faculty of Veterinary Medicine as there are only 4 lecturers working currently. The principal academic responsibilities within the Department include instruction and mentoring of veterinary medical students in the health sciences. Responsible undergraduate courses include Veterinary Pharmacy, Principle of Veterinary Pharmacology, Veterinary Pharmacology, and Veterinary Toxicology. At present, we do not offer graduate courses.

Research activities within the Department have involved various aspects of local herbs and their therapeutic uses in veterinary practice, especially antimicrobial and anti-parasitic effects. These studies extend from pharmaceutical preparation of herbal materials and in vitro and in vivo effects of the tested products to the development of herbal drugs for local usages.

Department of Pathobiology
Department of Veterinary Public Health
Department of Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU), has 20 staff members. Of these, 16 are faculty instructors, 2 are laboratory technicians, 1 is a departmental administrative officer, and 1 is a full-time employee. The Department provides 16 clinical subjects classified by various animal species including; companion animals, aquatic and wildlife animals, pigs, poultry, and livestock. Besides an academic commitment, the staff also participates in KKU Veterinary Teaching Hospital service for health care to the above-described species. For our research affiliation, the staff is very active in diverse areas of research aimed to solve problems of Thai animal owners for the betterment of mankind.

Department of Surgery & Theriogenology

The department comprise of two devisions, the veterinary surgery devision with seven staff members and the theriogenology devision with six staff members. The surgery devision serves for both academic purposes and animal hospital services. The academic services mainly are the teaching and training of veterinary students from the fourth to the sixth year covering all of surgical and related teshniques such as soft and hard tissue surgery, anesthesiology, and radiology in both small and large animals. The surgery devision also provides a variety of surgical services from basic to modernized techniques to the KKU Animal Teaching Hospital, the sole animal hospital in the noth-eastern region well-equiped with state of the art surgical instrument.

The theriogenology devision mainly involves in almost all of any aspect in animal reproduction. These include class lecturing such as artificial insemination and veterinary obstretics, laboratory practice, as well as field services with the animal hospital. The theriogenology devision also offer a master science degree for those who interest in the field animal reproduction, primarily in livestock. The research areas include herd health mamagement in dairy cattle and swine, reproductive biotechnology in cattle, and fertility control in horses and dogs.

Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Veterinary teaching hospital is affiliated with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Khon Kaen University. The hospital was established to support three main activities including teaching of clinical practice for veterinary students, providing animal health service, and doing research activities. Firstly , teaching activities are clinically case-based learning in both small animals and livestock relating to the minimum requirements of veterinary medicine program mainly for the 5 th and 6 th year students. Clinical practice involves medicine, surgery, theriogenology, and pathobiology. Secondly , the hospital is aimed to be the animal health service center in the Northeast of Thailand, which is responsible by field-specialized veterinarians. Therapeutic management and animal health suggestion as well as specialized services, e.g. ophthalmology, oncology, cardiovascular, and theriogenology were provided particularly in the small animal clinic. Ambulatory program is offered for routinely dairy herd visit and health management program. In this case, students will have opportunities to gain field experiences directly from the local farms. Thirdly , the hospital also offers routinely diagnostic laboratory examination to support all research activities for veterinary-related fields from governmental organizations and private sectors.
