EDUCATION
Academic year
A total of 6 academic years. Students are not allowed to enroll in this faculty more than 12 academic yeras. An academic year comprises of two semesters (16 weeks) and a summer session (6-8 weeks). Overall credits required are 245.
The faculty fulfilment
A student is required a minimum cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.00. Students with G.P.A. of 3.6 or higher will be awarded the first class honor degree. The second class honors degree is awarrded to students who have G.P.A. from 3.25 - 3.59. The G.P.A. is defined as the quotient of the sum of the products of grade point for which grades A, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D and F are awarded.

Practice period:
2nd year 80 hours
4th year 240 hours
5th and 6th year students required to attend clinical practice in Veterinary Teaching Hospital and farm in Veterinary Medicine, Surgery and Theriogenology topics.
Numbers of students:

There are 80 students enrolled in each year with majority of female, 35 students from Northeast region and 45 students from national entrance.

Nowadays, a total numbers of 447 veterinarians graduated from KKU are working in Thailand (312 male and 135 female).

1. Clinicians in private clinics
2. Government officers
3. Instructors in Universities, Colleges and Agricultural Schools
4. Ministry of Military Service
5. Private enterprise, Dairy Cooperative, farms, Feedmill, Companies, Zoos, Charity and Slaughter houses

Admission

One-hundred students are accepted each academic year for the DVM program. The students are selected from either one of the three examinations:

•  University Quota examination, of which the applicants must be Northeast residents and attend a school in the Northeast.

•  National entrance examination

•  Direct examination, which is organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Khon Kaen University .

 

 

Scholarship

Financial grants are awarded to 60-70 undergraduate students annually. The grants are for students with excellent performance but lacking support and are from both governmental and private sections. There are funds for students selected for international exchanged-student program.

Special Program in Veterinary Medicine
Each academic year, 50 of 110 freshmen who passed the exam are directly selected by the faculty through a special program. This program gives an opportunity for those who want to be a veterinarian after graduation. The program helps increasing in numbers of well-trained veterinarians to serve more services and needs from farmers.
Cooperative Education Program
Cooperative Education Program established by the faculty provides all students to gain real experience and skill in veterinary profession. All interns will practise as full time staffs in government units, private companies or other veterinary fields which they intend to work after graduation. The program helps faculty produce well-trained graduates whom meet a society need.
